Need to Fix This Page
This page should show up in the main navigation but should not have any content. It only serves as a placeholder for the dropdown pages underneath it
We believe that social and economic justice are a right for all people and communities.
In the 1930s, the Federal Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (HOLC,) a federal agency, began categorizing some urban neighborhoods as “riskier” than others. This discriminatory process, known as redlining, limited investments in communities where Black and Brown people live. Almost 100 years later, the effects of this practice of restricting access to credit and homeownership for people of color continue to result in disparities that impact their health, education, ability to build wealth, and overall quality of life. NHS is committed to addressing these historical injustices by increasing the number of Black and Brown homeowners throughout Baltimore and preserving the investments of legacy homeowners.
Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore, a non-profit organization, partners with communities to increase homeownership, improve the quality of life in neighborhoods, and strengthen the local real estate market.
The U.S. Treasury Department has certified NHS as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). This means we can fund various activities like helping first-time homebuyers with mortgages, supporting community facilities with flexible financing, and providing commercial loans to businesses in low-income areas. As a CDFI, we can employ creative strategies to build strong local economies.
