The Mill on North

Introducing The Walbrook Mill Apartments and the Mill on North Avenue food hall, near Coppin State University. This project transformed an old lumber mill into affordable apartments and a showcase for locally-owned restaurants. Bring your family and friends and enjoy the delicious foods and drinks from Dream Street Cuisine, The Dancing Potato, D and B Deli, 3 Chefs, Next Phaze Cafe and Sunday Morning Coffee.

The Neighbor Next Door Initiative

The Neighbor Next Door Initiative is a transformative project aimed at revitalizing entire blocks where NHS is developing formerly vacant homes into homeownership opportunities. Homeowners on three selected blocks in the Walbrook and Panway neighborhoods received grants for exterior home improvements, stimulating full-block enhancements and fostering a stronger, more vibrant community.

Neighborhood Beautification Projects

We have proudly partnered with various community organizations on several impactful projects aimed at enhancing safety, beautifying public spaces, and fostering community engagement. These projects include: Druid Hill Canopy Crosswalk, LaBurt-Mosher Park/Mural, Urban Oasis Alleygating & Shed, William S. Baer School Sign, Brighter Baker Street Mural, Braddish Avenue Community Lot, Herbert Street Park, Parkwood Placemaking Project, Parkway Community Sign, Parkway Statue Garden, and Gwynns Falls Median landscaping.

Community Voices Matter: See the Results of our 2020 Community Impact Survey

Every three years, NHS and partner organizations gather feedback from residents in the Panway, Robert W. Coleman, and Coppin Heights neighborhoods on how revitalization initiatives have impacted their neighborhoods. The survey’s results are used to shape NHS’s future community development strategies. The responses from the hundred fifty-five (155) residents who shared their level of satisfaction with their communities and neighbors on the 2020 Community Impact Survey are here.

We also conducted block and building observations to track how the physical environment of these neighborhoods has changed over time. The results of the Physical Conditions and Attractiveness Survey are here.
