For N.W., each day was a careful balancing act. As a single mother of three, she managed work, parenting, and household responsibilities with little room for error. Even after starting a promising new career, rising expenses made it difficult to stay ahead of monthly bills, and the stress of keeping her household financially stable began to take its toll.
When N.W. realized her mortgage payments were becoming unmanageable, she knew she needed more than short-term relief; she needed guidance and a long-term plan. That’s when she connected with Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore (NHS Baltimore) and enrolled in its Financial Coaching program.
Through one-on-one coaching, N.W. worked with NHS to better understand her finances, identify opportunities for improvement, and take proactive steps toward stability. As part of this process, NHS also connected her to critical resources. Within a few months, N.W. received more than $17,000 through the Homeowner Assistance Fund to address her mortgage arrears, easing immediate financial pressure and allowing her to focus on long-term goals.
With the combination of financial coaching and mortgage assistance, N.W. gained the tools, confidence, and breathing room she needed to move forward. Today, she is better equipped to manage her finances and provide a secure, nurturing home for her children.
N.W.’s journey highlights the impact of financial coaching—not only as a response to financial hardship, but as a foundation for long-term stability and resilience.
